He began his training at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, and completed his surgical residency at New York Medical College. Dr. Hanan also trained as a surgical oncologist at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute.

In 1999, Dr. Hanan joined the practice of Dr. Norman Bloom, a pioneering spine approach surgeon with more than 25 years of experience. This partnership and his fellowship training have contributed to Dr. Hanan’s expertise performing the most complex spine approach surgeries.
